Welcome!

Hello and welcome to the Birch Haven Rescue and Rehabilitation Charity Art Book Blog!

I would like to thank each and every one of you for offering to participate in this project. I am overwhelmed by the number of you who have expressed interest in this, and totally taken back by the gorgeous artwork that has been submitted so far. Your participation in this project goes to show how generous and giving you all are, and I can't thank you enough for taking the time to put a bit of your heart and soul out for these dogs & horses in need.

I am gathering original artwork for a collaboration charity art book for the non-profit organization of Birch Haven Rescue & Rehabilitation (BHRR). This wonderful organization supports the rescue and rehabilitation of giant breed canines and equines. To find out more about this fantastic family and what they do, feel free to visit their website at http://www.birchhaven.org/ .

Participation in this project would entail the donation of any kind of new and original self-made artwork (sketches, inked work, coloured digital or traditionally, paintings, sculpture, etc. - sorry no photographs!) of or including giant breed canines (Great Dane, Deerhound, Great Pyrenees, Wolfhound, Mastiff, Newfoundland, & St. Bernard) or equines (horses - all breeds). I will be personally screening all submitted artwork to keep it family friendly and the quality at a certain standard. As proud as you may be please refrain from posting your entry on the internet - keep it a surprise for people buying the book (at least until a month of two after it's been released)!

Gwen of Birch Haven has mentioned that if anyone feels so inclined, she would be absolutely ecstatic if anyone were to draw any of the dogs past or present of BHRR as seen on their website. I will be updating a post with images of special dogs from the BHRR program.

You will have full copyright of any artwork you contribute, and any and all profits from sales of these books will go directly to the dogs and horses of BHRR. Your name and contact info (if desired) will be credited alongside your artwork. You can also donate any original artwork to BHRR to sell at auctions to raise even more funds if you'd like! There's no limit on the number of images you'd like to submit - the more the merrier! If submitting digital art/scans, please keep the resolution NO LESS than 300 dpi please, any higher is even better!

All artwork is to be submitted by the 1st of September, 2011.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration, and feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions whatsoever.

Sincerely,

Kim Buck

Frequently Asked Questions

I'll be updating this as they come in. Please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail (kim.buck@hotmail.com) with your questions, 'comment' through this blog, or through tumblr (http://kimabuck.tumblr.com/). No question is dumb and it can only help others wondering the same thing. :)

Q. What breeds of dogs and horses are acceptable?
A. Giant dog breeds are:
♥ Great Dane
♥ Deerhound
♥ Great Pyrenees
♥ Wolfhound
♥ Mastiff
♥ Newfoundland
♥ St. Bernard
♥ Giant Schnauzer

All types of horses are welcome!

Q. I am a traditional artist so would a scan of the final piece be alright to enter?
A. A high quality scan 300 DPI or higher would be perfect!

Q. Is this an artbook that anyone can buy once its done? Or will it be auctioned?
A. Once the book is done it will be available for all to purchase online. All money made from book sales will then be donated directly to BHRR. :)

If however you have done some traditional artwork as an entry for the book, you are more than welcome to
mail the original as would be auctioned for additional funding for the rescue.

Q. I'm done my drawing! Now what?

A. Send me an e-mail at kim.buck@hotmail.com with your entry attached, along with any info you would like to include alongside your art in the book. You might like the include your name and blog/tumblr/website so people can easily find more of your artwork and you can get famous!

Q. Does the entry have to be portrait, or can it be put in landscape?
A. Portrait or landscape - whatever works best with your idea!

Q. Does the dog have to be an adult or can it be a puppy?
A. All ages welcome! They can be adults or puppies, or not even the main focus of an image. As long as there is some reference to a giant dog or horse (t-shirt on a person, person walking a dog, riding a horse, etc.).

Q. Can it be cartoon style? Or does it have to be realistic?
A. Whichever style you want. This is a collective art book so getting a wide variety of different artistic styles is the goal.
